The purpose and motivation behind this balloon hoop garland was to create a photo shoot design for my birthday. I came up with the color concept because hunter green is one of my favorite colors. For this design, I did use single balloons only because it was mainly for photo purposes. If designing for a party, I’d say to double stuff the balloons with the same color or a darker color, closer to black.

BALLOON HOOP COLOR INSPO

My color inspiration and the colors found throughout comes in the form of sage green, stone gray, clear, metallic gold, white, and touches of iridescence. As I mentioned, I really wanted to keep the garland mainly dark green with touches of color. I chose the sand gray because it gives off a more neutral cream color than other balloons I ordered that were labeled “nude/cream”. The clear balloons throughout give little pops of iridescence and allow for a break in the eye between the green and gray.

For the backdrop behind the garland, I went with white fringe for a touch of sheen and to keep the palette fairly neutral. I added some iridescent streamers to tie in the clear balloons throughout the garland as well as give the backdrop a slight sheen. The metallic gold of the ring backdrop stand really helps to tie all of the colors together and with just a small amount showing through, it’s not overpowering.

The overall design of this backdrop was to create a fluid look that could accommodate one person or a few. I decided to go with a round backdrop for this set up because I liked the look of the curving, asymmetrical balloons from top to bottom. I also knew I wanted to have some large oversized balloons for dramatic effect, and I think this worked out perfectly with just 3 added for balance. I also wanted the design to be “full” without looking “heavy” and I think the overall look of this was achieved by balancing the colors along with the translucent balloons and offsetting the ring on each side.

All in all, I’m really happy with the design of this garland, quality of materials, and the colors. If you’d like to diy this garland, you can find the full video on my youtube channel with links to all of the products used.
