Kids’ Summer Party

Summer summer summer time… Oh yes, it’s that time of the year again and I am ecstatic as I have already begun planning out my activities for the coming season. Our Event Planning business is kicking off Summer this year with a kids Summer Party and I’m so excited to share these pics with you! In planning and executing this event we came across many challenges and I’ll be sharing some tips below on just how we overcame those and how you can overcome them at your next event.

Issue 1: The Venue

Unless you somehow figured out how to gain control of Mother Nature, be aware. Be very aware! As this was going to be a kids summer party, naturally we were going to hold the party outdoors. We checked for sunshine, we checked for park reservations, we checked for location, however we did not check for wind. What this meant was as the wind tore things apart, we were re-doing the same thing again and again until we could finally figure out how to properly secure everything. What this also meant was complete devastation for our balloon garland backdrop. Using the proper backdrop pipes is key as some are heavier and more suited for the outside and windy days such as this one. While we did manage to get the backdrop up, it was extremely difficult. My recommendation when dealing with the outdoors: Remember, it’s uncontrolled. Have a plan B, a plan C and maybe even a plan D. If you’re planning a dessert table set up with a backdrop, make sure you test it out ahead of time and if you tend to be last minute, definitely stick with what you know.

Issue 2: Colors

Designing for a Summer Party typically means LOTS of bright color. When you’re dealing with bright color it can also mean clashes. The important thing to remember here is balance. As long as you balance the multi colored prints with solids, you will be just fine. In this case, we designed our printables with a lot of white and splashes of color. We also did patterned tablecloths with solid colored centerpieces, solid colored place settings and solid colored personalized goodie bags for the kiddies to top it all off (This is so similar to the life choices I always try to make – Balance is key)

Issue 3: Time

Expect the unexpected. If you feel like you’re always short on time, it’s because you probably did not give yourself enough of it. Things will never go 100% smoothly no matter how much you plan. But depending on how far in advance you begin setup and your pre-event organization, you are giving yourself enough time to overcome that issue. Chances are you are not throwing a party every weekend and you want this one to go well. We started setting up at 8am and finished for the party in time at 3pm just to give you an idea. Between decorations, food and organizing, even with a simple event of only 30 people, you will need the time.

So this posting was very short and sweet today, hope you enjoyed! Feel free to let me know if you like these little tips and tricks about design and parties. Until next time.

Love <3 Always,
